Test Grade Calculator (EZ Grader)

Enter how many questions the test had and how many were missed — get the percentage score and letter grade instantly. Built for teachers grading a stack of papers and students checking a quiz.

How it works

score = (total − wrong) ÷ total × 100

If a test has 25 questions and 3 are wrong, the score is (25 − 3) ÷ 25 × 100 = 22 ÷ 25 × 100 = 88%. The calculator also maps that percentage to a letter grade using the standard US scale.

The grid below shows the percentage for each number wrong. It is the digital version of the classic teacher's EZ grader slide chart.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter the number right instead of wrong?

Subtract from the total in your head, or just lower the "number wrong" until the score matches. Number wrong is faster for grading because you only count the marks you made.

Does it handle partial credit?

This tool assumes each question is worth one point. For weighted sections or partial credit, use the weighted grade calculator.

Where does the letter grade come from?

From the common US scale (A = 93+, B = 83+, and so on). See the full chart on the grade converter.
